भगवान ने मनुष्य को अनेक प्रकार के प्राकृतिक उपहार प्रदान किए हैं. जिनमें से जल भी एक है। जल के बिना मनुष्य अधूरा है। मानव शरीर में दो-तिहाई मात्रा पानी की है। धरती पर रहने वाले हर जीव को जीवित रहने के लिए जल चाहिए ही। इसलिए कहा जाता है कि ‘जल ही जीवन है।’ इसी कारण आज का मनुष्य चांद से लेकर मंगल तक की सतह पर पानी तलाशने में लगा हुआ है ताकि वहां भी जीवन संभव हो सके।
जल हमारे शरीर में कार्बोहाइड्रेट्स, प्रोटीन और वसा की तरह ही काम करता है। यह हमारे शरीर की पाचन प्रक्रिया को ठीक रखता है। यह हमारे शरीर के तापमान को सामान्य बनाने में भी मदद करता है।
लेकिन यह आश्चर्य ही है कि जल यदि इतना ही महत्त्वपूर्ण है तो कोई इसे दूषित क्यों करता है। जल प्रदूषण और जल की बर्बादी के कारण अब जल हमें पीने के लिए भी पर्याप्त मात्रा में उपलब्ध नहीं हो पा रहा है। क्या यह सुनकर हैरानी नहीं होती कि आज खुले बाजार में प्रकृति की यह अनमोल देन बिक रही है और लोग इसे खरीदकर पी भी रहे हैं।
अभी पिछले दिनों केंद्र सरकार को महाराष्ट्र के कुछ इलाकों में तो देश के अन्य राज्यों से रेल आदि साधनों द्वारा जल की मूलभूत आपूर्ति करने को विवश होना पड़ा था। किसी ने सच कहा है कि नदियों के देश में जब जल की कीमत को न है समझा जाए, उसकी उपेक्षा की जाए, तो ऐसी परेशानियों का सामने आना स्वाभाविक ही है। कु
छ लोगों द्वारा तो यह भविष्यवाणी भी की गई है कि अब विश्व युद्ध जल के लिए ही होगा। इसलिए हमें जल के महत्व को समझना चाहिए। इसका उपयोग अत्यंत सावधानीपूर्वक करना चाहिए। प्रयास करना चाहिए कि धरती के नीचे इसका स्तर संतुलित बना रहे। आजकल तो इस विषय में जानकारी देने के लिए सरकार द्वारा भी कई कार्यक्रम शुरू किए गए हैं। इस संबंध में आर्थिक सहायता भी की जा रही है।
