आज पूरी दुनिया में विज्ञान की पताका लहरा रही है। जीवन तथा एक-दूसरे के पर्याय बन गए हैं। विज्ञान से मानव को असीमित शक्ति प्राप्त हुई है। आज मनुष्य विज्ञान की सहायता से पक्षियों की भाँति आसमान में उड़ सकता है, गहरे से गहरे पानी में सांस ले सकता है, पर्वतों को लांप सकता है तथा कई मीलों की दूरियों को चंद घंटों में पार कर सकता है।
इस प्रकार समूची पृथ्वी ही हमारा घर है, भारत की इस प्राचीन सोच को विज्ञान की उपलब्धियों ने मानो साकार कर दिया है। फलस्वरूप विभिन्न देशों को परस्पर एक-दूसरे को समझने एक दूसरे की सहायता करने में भी आसानी हुई है। आज मनुष्य में विज्ञान की सहायता से कई बड़े क्षेत्रों में सफलता पाई है जैसे कि चिकित्सा, सूचना, अंतरिक्ष विज्ञान यातायात आदि।
ईंधन, सूचना, कम्प्यूटर उपकरण आदि ऐसे कई अनोखे साधन विज्ञान ने दिए हैं, जिनसे जीवन बेहद सरल और संपन्न हो गया है। बिजली द्वारा संचालित पंखें. ए. सी.. टीवी, कूलर, लाइट्स आदि कई साधन मानव को विज्ञान से ही तो प्राप्त हुए हैं।
अब तो विज्ञान ने बिजली के कई ऐसे उपकरणों का निर्माण कर लिया है, जिनसे मानव का काम और भी आसान बन गया है, जैसे-वैक्यूम क्लीनर, सोलर गैस, मोबाइल फोन, हीटर आदि। विज्ञान द्वारा किए गए ये सभी आविष्कार मनुष्य के लिए वरदान साबित हो रहे हैं। भोजन, आवास, यातायात, चिकित्सा, मनोरंजन, कृषि, मनोरंजन, उद्योग आदि सभी क्षेत्र विज्ञान से प्रभावित हैं।
कुछ लोग विज्ञान के विकास के कुछ पहलुओं की आलोचना करते हैं. लेकिन क्या ऐसा नहीं है कि चाकू के प्रयोग से व्यक्ति रोजमर्रा की जरूरतों को पूरा कर पाता है, वह आत्म सुरक्षा का भी साधन है और किसी की हत्या करने का भी साधन भी क्या किसी भी वस्तु का अच्छा या बुरा होना उस व्यक्ति की मंशा पर निर्भर नहीं करता, जो उसका उपयोग कर रहा है।
