समय ईश्वर का ही रूप है। व्यक्ति के निर्माण में समय का महत्त्व असंदिग्ध है। समय इतना समर्थ और शक्तिमान होता है कि धूल में पड़े हुए को सिंहासन पर आसीन कर सकता है और सिंहासन पर विराजमान सम्राट को धूल में मिला सकता है। बीता हुआ समय कभी नहीं लौटता। अतः जो व्यक्ति समय की उपेक्ष करता है, समय उसको ठुकराकर आगे बढ़ जाता है।
समय को संस्कृत में काल कहते हैं। समय के सदुपयोग का अर्थ है अपने वर्तमान को सुधारना, अर्थात् उसे सही दिशा देना, क्योंकि अगर इस संदर्भ में चूक हो जाए, तो भविष्य बिगड़ जाता है। यदि कोई विद्यार्थी अपने समय का सदुपयोग न करे, तो परिणाम में असफलता ही आएगी। जब ऐसा परिणाम सामने आता है, तभी कहा जाता है-‘अब पछताए होय क्या, जब चिड़िया चुग गई खेत।”
सुख और दुख भी समय की देन हैं। समय केवल उनका मित्र हैं, जो समय का सम्मान करते हैं। जीवन का एक-एक पल बहुमूल्य है। समय नष्ट करने का तात्पर्य है- आत्महत्या करना । उन्नति चाहने वाला व्यक्ति कभी बेकार के कामों में अपना समय नष्ट नहीं करता। वह एक-एक पल का उपयोग करता है। व्यर्थ की बातों एवं झगड़ों झमेलों में समय बर्बाद करने वाले लोग होरे जैसे जीवन को कौड़ी के बदले में गवां देते हैं।
जो समय का सम्मान करते हैं, उन्हें जीवन में कभी पछताना नहीं पड़ता। अतः हमें समय का सम्मान करते हुए उसका सदुपयोग करना चाहिए। अपने क्षेत्र में जिन्होंने भी ऊंचाइयों को छुआ है, उनका जीवन भी इसी बात को प्रेरणा देता है कि समय का सदैव उपयोग करना चाहिए। कई लोग तो एक समय में दो काम करने में माहिर होते हैं। हमारे राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी ऐसे ही थे।
ध्यान रखें समय का आप सदुपयोग करेंगे, तो समय आपका सम्मान करेगा। तब आपको समय से कोई शिकायत नहीं करनी पड़ेगी।
